National Charity Headquarters

A former garage building is transformed into the headquarters for the Independent Age charity, serving older people throughout the UK. Butterfly north-lights are introduced along the roof ridge line bringing generous daylight deep into the plan. Selective demolition creates a new glazed gable elevation providing a pleasant outlook from all the work stations into a generously planted courtyard. The thermal performance of the existing building fabric is dramatically improved, environmental systems introduced to provide economic comfort year round and the façade remodelled to provide an appropriate contemporary character for this long-established but forward-looking charity.
